MP Damien Moore has launched an online survey regarding train services following the news that Northern are to alter the direct service to Manchester Piccadilly.
Damien said...
Following Northern's announcement that the train services between Southport and Manchester Piccadilly are to be downgraded for a period of time, I have launched an online survey on the topic of transport for local residents to take part in.
If you have a spare 30 seconds and live in Southport, please fill out my survey; it will help me to represent you and secure the right train line for Southport.

While acknowledging that Damien Moore is the Southport MP why is this survey only for the denizens of Southport?
Southport Station is used by more than Southport residents.
A decent service to Manchester, or further, from Southport would surely benefit people further along the railway line, coast.

Commuted daily on Merseyrail for 8 years and regular user of Manchester line
- Southport is an isolated town from a transport perspective, particularly roads. Motorway is a 30 minute drive so train links should be a key priority
- Fully in favour of reopening/renovating Burscough curves.
- Would strongly support any measures that keep Merseyrail guards on the new trains when they finally arrive.
- Would strongly support any moves to get rid of Merseyrail's "civil enforcement officers". The distressing sight of big burly men terrifying a ten year old kid who put their feet on the seat for 10 seconds is far too common.
- Merseyrail has been allowed to get away with "fast trains" for too long, that is, when a train is late it will only stop at half the stops. This is a disgraceful practice and happens far too often.
- Merseyrail and Northern prices are a total rip off for commuters. This is more than a local issue. Government has done nothing to help commuters in this respect (I'm fully in favour of Mr Corbyn's plan to renationalise the rail, I'm sure that will get a few comments!)
- Continued use of pacers on the Manchester line should be completely unacceptable and Northern should be urged to roll out their new trains on all lines at the earliest opportunity.
- Crowding on Manchester lines at weekend is horrendous. Anyone who has tried to return from Manchester on a Saturday evening knows exactly what I'm on about.
- Meta: Disappointed that on the survey itself, I could only agree to be contacted if I also gave consent to be approached on other issues.

.
You can get a day saver to take you from Southport all over, so say to West Kirby and back and anywhere and everywhere in between across Merseyside for £5.20... Merseyrail maybe many things but it ain't a rip off price wise.
