This weekend I was delighted to attend the 146th Open at Royal Birkdale in Southport.

The Open brings together sporting talent from around the world, including Rory Mcllory, Tommy Fleetwood, and Ian Poulter amongst others.

It was the most well supported event for any Open Championship held in England, with no less than 235,000 people attending over the last week.

The economic benefit the Open brings will also not have gone unnoticed, as many businesses, particularly those in the hospitality and tourism sector, will have seen a significant increase in their footfall.

I would like to congratulate Jordan Spieth who successfully won the tournament and his third major, after holding off Matt Kuchar by three shots.

In addition, I would like to thank the organisers, security, and staff involved for what has been a spectacular week of sporting entertainment.
