King George V College welcomed over one hundred Primary School Children to the College as it hosted its first Dodgeball Festival.

The event, organised by a group of twenty five advanced level Sport students, saw ten teams of Year 5 pupils from Schools across the borough compete in a knock out tournament. Schools involved were: St Johns Primary, Trinity St. Peters School, Holy Trinity CE Primary, Holy Family Catholic Primary School, St Jeromes Catholic Primary School, Linaker Primary School, Larkfield Primary School, Freshfield Primary School and Farnborough Road Junior School.

Claire Clarke, BTEC Sport Course Leader at KGV, said, “The event was organised by our BTEC Sport Extended Diploma Students in collaboration with Active Sefton.”

“Students were exemplary in preparing for the event; creating a Sports Event Committee in which each member had an individual role, conducting regular meetings, constructing plans for the event and subsequently delivering an event to a high standard.”

“It was clear the students had put a lot of thought and effort into organising the tournament, which was enjoyable for all participants on the day.”

Students organised the tournament as part of their BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport for which it contributed towards the unit ‘Organising Sports Events.’

Patrick Lawrenson, an Advanced Level Sport student who chaired the event, said ‘It was brilliant to see so many children enjoying playing dodgeball. This is a sport that they hadn’t done before but all were up for taking on the challenge.’

St Jeromes Catholic Primary School were overall winners on the day with Holy Family Catholic Primary School coming a close second place.
