Southport FC have completed the permanent transfer of full-back Jordan Richards from AFC Fylde.

The 24-year-old defender has signed contract until the end of the 2018/19 season and joins on a free transfer.

Jordan began his career at Hartlepool United, signing his first pro deal in 2011, going on to spend 6 years with the North-East club and making over 60 Football League appearances. He made 15 appearances on loan at Alfreton before going on to join AFC Fylde. Jordan has made 10 National League appearances for AFC Fylde since the start of the season as well as both 2nd Round FA Cup ties against Wigan Athletic.

Jordan Richards said: “I’m really made up to be joining Southport. It’s a club going in the right direction. There’s obviously a lot of ambition. I’ve listened to everything that the club has planned and I really want to be a part of that. What everyone’s looking to do here is a really exciting project and I just want to get started”

Kevin Davies said: “We’ve watched Jordan a few times now. He’s played in the leagues above and done really well. He’s taken his chances up at Fylde. Likes to get forward, he’s got great delivery and great energy. He’s certainly going to add to the group of players that we’ve got. Jordan adds quality and competition for places so we’re pleased he’s decided to join us and buy into the vision and what we’re trying to achieve.”
