Join the Great British Spring Clean!
West Lancashire Borough Council is inviting you to support the Great British Spring Clean.
Following the success of the 'Clean for the Queen' Campaign in 2016 and the 2017 Great British Spring Clean, which attracted over 250,000 people to take part in nationwide litter picking events, the Keep Britain Tidy Group have launched the 2018 Great British Spring Clean campaign.
This aims to inspire hundreds of thousands of people to participate in community clean ups, many of which will take place between Friday 2 March and Sunday 4 March.
West Lancashire Borough Council's Parks and Countryside Ranger Service is organising its own event with a clean-up of Tawd Valley Park on Saturday 3 March as well as encouraging and supporting Parish Councils and residents across the Borough to organise their own events in their area.
The clean-up at Tawd Valley Park will be the first practical task for the Friends of Tawd Valley Park, working alongside the Rangers.
Other volunteers for the Tawd Valley Park event are more than welcome to join in and should meet at the turning circle at Summer Street at 10am for the start of the clean-up. Please wear suitable clothing for the weather and ground conditions.
Community groups and local residents who are organising a clean-up of their local area and require resources such as bin bags and litter pickers can contact Michelle Williams, the Council’s Street Scene Operations Manager, on 01695 577177 ext 5449 or by email michelle.williams@westlancs.gov.uk. The Council’s Environmental Enforcement Officers will be out supporting community events.
Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council, said: “A key priority in the Council Plan is to be ambitious for our environment and its cleanliness. Working together can make a real contribution in tackling litter issues and improving the quality of the environment. These activities will demonstrate there are many who care passionately about this issue and are prepared to support their community.”
For more information about volunteering opportunities with the Parks and Countryside Ranger Service please email beacon.park@westlancs.gov.uk or phone 01695 622794. Please note that we can only accept volunteers aged 18+. You can also follow the Rangers on Twitter @WLBC_Rangers or www.facebook.com/wlbc.rangers.

We need an initiative like this in Southport! Since the recent high tides, the 'beach' is knee deep in plastic bottles.
