Southport residents will be familiar with many a joke about the sea never coming in at Southport. Although it may seem like that to many of us at times, the reality is that the coastline and lakes from Southport to Crosby carry all the same dangers and risks as anywhere else.

The hot weather may make the water seem inviting but here as in many other areas of coastline around the country, lifeboat crews have been active recently rescuing people who underestimated the tides or depth of water.

Here in Southport the lifeboat service is operated by the Southport Offshore Rescue Trust and is staffed by volunteers based in the old Lifeboat house next to Pleasureland. They have been VERY active recently, most recently searching for three missing children last seen in the sea at Formby. Thankfully the quad team helped reunite the children with their families. Below is a link to some other call outs they have responded to recently.

Please, be aware of the dangers and risks the sea and lakes may bring. Especially if you have young children, always watch them carefully around water, and please heed warnings given by the emergency and rescue services.
