Heatwave is putting water supplies under pressure.

A spokesperson for United Utilities said.

We’ve seen a huge increase for water during the hot weather with an extra half a billion litres used yesterday & today. We urgently need your help to avoid a hosepipe ban. Turn off garden sprinklers, don’t use hosepipes or wash cars, take shorter showers, not baths this weekend.

With the hot weather set to continue, we’re seeing a really high demand for water. Yesterday, in the #NorthWest alone, an extra half a billion litres of water was used! Use water wisely & don't use water in the garden while it's hot. See how to save water https://bit.ly/2yU22fU

It's about time commonsense, intelligence whatever starts to come to the foremost.

If I were in United Utility or any water management company I would surely start to look at the last "10" years.......May, June and part of JULY!!!! HOT. So if that's the pattern start building more capacity????

You are making shed loads of profit, no problem with that, however plough some back into infrastructure and stop the shortsighted vision employed by all others.

United Utilities made £344m profit last year. Use some of that to fix leaks and waste water.

    Two points:

    (1) We've had wet summers for the past few years. You can't plan for freak years. This year is nowhere near as dry, yet, as 1976 when the drought went on for months and there were standpipes in the streets. Back then - well before privatisation -the infrastructure was wholly in public hands and it still couldn't cope. We just have to make do and plan for the norm not the exception.

    (2) Water requirements continue to grow partly because of the massive increase in population caused by mass immigration (and vastly higher birthrates among those who come here in comparison with the indigenous population). It isn't sensible to continue to allow this. It is historically unprecidented in scale and isn't just a problem for water usage; it also strangles our health services, schools, housing supply, etc.

So why are they taking reservoirs and storage facilities out of service, to cut costs and increase profits.
