Health Watchdog calls for to residents to be ready for NHS fight
Community carved out of hospital shake-up by NHS chiefs
Southport and Formby residents need to be prepared for bad news and to be
ready to campaign for their local hospital says a local Health watchdog.
Councillor Tony Dawson, local Lib Dem spokesperson on Heath said:
"This week, health bosses have tossed their ideas for a major re-jig of the
region's hospital services in to Ministers without any input whatsoever
from the community representatives. Local Councils' Health Scrutiny
Committees have been kept completely in the dark."
"We do not know what is going to come out of this 'Sustainability and
Transformation Process' or when precisely it is going to come but, mark my
words, it will not be good for our area and we will need to be prepared to
stand up and fight for our local NHS. There is simply not enough money to
go round."
"A single 'delivery network' has been established by the Health bosses
which stretches right around Liverpool like a collar from Southport to
Warrington and Widnes. Creation of such a unit is a form of madness which
would never be contemplated y anyone who understands the local communities
of Merseyside and South West Lancashire. I can only see it as a device to
deliver deep cuts in our NHS."
This article posted by cllr dawson or his team is pretty poorly worded, leaves more questions than it answers and has the same typos as the version on the other site. Unless he genuinely is our representative on "Heath" as I thought they don't have Heath in the flower bed he's stood in....
1) is Cllr Dawson now calling himself a "health watchdog" as normally a watchdog is "a person or organization responsible for making certain that companies obey particular standards and do not act illegally" according riding to the Cambridge dictionary reference. The NHS clearly don't take him serious enough to talk to as he's complained of being ignored before.
2) further to the article and previous question, what is he going to do and what is he asking the residents to do "calling to be ready for the fight" is suitably non-descript.
3) if it's with ministers, where's our MP in all this or us he leaving to Cllr Dawson to fight for him now?
4) what's the lib dem proposed alternative to get investment in the NHS as I can see how this could be bad but it also may drive some economies of scale
All of this ultimately seems like:
1) posturing so can distance selves when bad news comes
2) publicity seeking from Cllr Dawson now he's fresh back from "his working holiday 7000 miles away"
3) highlights how useless our elected representatives can be given what we elected them for so submitting poorly worded "calls" to be ready for a fight but no specific actions he's taking or wants us to take on this key area is pretty amateur and disappointing
4) it'd be pointless consulting our "watchdog" if this is the best he can submit on two sites
