With two cup defeats in three days, the Port have the chance to make the third a memorable one as the game today Wednesday 19 December against Garstang is in the quarter-final of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy.

Despite missing out on an Emirates FA Cup Third Round tie against Spurs, it was still an excellent night at a sold out Merseyrail Community Stadium, with the players working incredibly hard to try and damage League Two Tranmere.

It will be the Rovers honour of playing a Premier League side in the next round and are bound to give Spurs a tough battle at Prenton Park.

The Partners Foundation Lancashire Challenge Trophy is now the focus, with Liam Watson hoping his side will progress, with aspirations of winning the competition as one of the targets from the season.

The club started the competition with a 5-2 win in Barrow-in Furness against Holker Old Boys, before a massive 6-0 victory in the following round against Clitheroe at home.

This weeks opponents, Garstang, ply their trade in division one North of the North West Counties League, four divisions below.

This is an historic season for the hosts, as it is the highest they have ever played in the football pyramid, after winning the West Lancashire Premier League first division last season.

They are dealing with the jump up the divisions pretty well, currently sitting in mid-table in 12th, 11 points clear of the relegation zone.

In the last round of the cup, the club came up against Atherton Colliers, with the game needing penalties to separate the pair after a 1-1 draw. It was Lee Bakers side who came out on top, winning the shootout 5-3.

This is a complete different game to Monday night for the Port, this time they’re the team from a higher league and are certainly the team expected to win against a side who will give their all to cause an upset, hence why a strong side will travel, just like it did for Holker.
