Merseyside Fire Service offer advice to people heading for the beach.
The hot weather looks set to stay with us over the weekend. We have increasingly been called out to people stuck in mudflats at the beach. If you're going to the beach, please heed this advice: don't put yourself at risk - as soon as it gets sticky, go back the way you came.

The lifeguard hut should be placed on the end of the pier to provide a far more suitable vantage point. Where it stands at present there are serious blind spots to the North side of the pier.

The advice I would give to everybody is never to venture out onto the beach on the Preston side of the pier, especially if you are unaware of the tide times.
Between the pier and Ainsdale there is a massive difference between the distance the tide retreats at low water so great care is required at all times irrespective of the many areas of mud accretion.
