After receiving an overwhelming amount of nominations, the inaugural winner of the Southport FC Volunteer of the Month Award is Dave Dodd.

Dave volunteers on the Player’s Entrance at front of house at the club and has done for many years. He is always the first friendly face to greet visitors, staff and players from both teams when they arrive at the Merseyrail Community Stadium.

At the end of 2017, sadly Dave had an operation followed by a long illness, hospitalising him for three months.

After an arduous battle to get over illness, Dave returned to the Merseyrail Community Stadium for the recent game against Curzon Ashton in what was a proud moment for him and an emotional time for his friends at the club.

Dave attended our Year of the Volunteer launch meeting and was excited to be back part of the football family and will long continue to be a vital role of the matchday delivery volunteer team.

As stated by his nominator, He has shown loyalty, bravery and that little bit of crazy that makes such a good non-league volunteer.

Dave received an award presented on the pitch at half time by club CEO Natalie Atkinson and Volunter Co-ordinators Nicola Hudson and Christine Classon. Dave also receives a gift voucher kindly donated by County Insurance and was put forward by the club as our nominee for the National League Volunteer of the Month.

Many thanks to all who took the time to nominate volunteers this month, and nominations for March’s award will open shortly.
