This year Southport FC launched its #OnePort Volunteer scheme with the aim of celebrating the amazing work done by our fantastic team of volunteers on both matchdays and at the ground during the week.

Since January we have been awarding our Volunteer of the Month Award to volunteers nominated by supporters with worthy winners so far including Dave Dodd, Rob Urwin and Les Rooney.

The winners of the club Volunteer of the Month Award receive a trophy, Marks & Spencers voucher kindly donated by County Insurance and are also nominated by the club for consideration for the National League Volunteer of the Month Awards.

We received a number of nominations but there were two names that we received numerous nominations for and we couldn’t think of a more fitting duo to receive the inaugural Southport FC Volunteer of the Year Award.

Dave Barnes and Hamish Morton undertake countless roles within our club on matchdays and during the week. Both have acted as the club’s kitmen for a number of seasons and have been present at every game home and away this season.

The winning pair are pictured with CEO Natalie Atkinson and Club Captain David Lynch.

Dave and Hamish are at the club most days during the week, preparing the weekend’s kit, helping with tasks around the club, and preparing all the equipment that the club takes on away travels.

Club CEO Natalie Atkinson said: “We had some excellent nominations for our Volunteer of the Month Award throughout the season, which is a real testament to the strengths and dedication of our small army of volunteers in many different areas of the Club.

“Dave and Hamish have conducted themselves throughout the season with the utmost professionalism, and the amount of work they do behind the scenes is incredible. We’re very fortunate to have them on board at Southport and I hope this award goes some small way to showing how valuable they are to the Club.”

Congratulations to Dave and Hamish on their well deserved award!
