Southport travel to Curzon Ashton this weekend searching to finally put an end to their nine match winless streak.

A host of missed chances allowed North Ferriby United to take a point back across the Pennines last weekend, and left the Sandgrounders ruing a golden opportunity to put three points on the board.

On a positive note Southport were at least creating chances, something that could not have been said prior to the change in manager.

If the Sandgrounders’ attack can add the final touch, wins will not be far away.

Sheffield United loanee Jordan Hallam notched his first goal for the club on Saturday and looked lively throughout the game.

His performance, combined with his record for the Blades at academy level, is a promising sign that Kevin Davies’ side have someone capable of finding the back of the net on a regular basis.

After the match last week it was announced that David Lynch had joined the club from Halifax, a welcome signing in midfield making up for the departures of Chris Merrie and Steve Jennings over the last two weeks.

Chris Sang has joined Merrie in having his loan terminated, and permanent acquisitions of Lynch, Josh Hine, David Morgan and Nathan Lowe lately demonstrate that stability and longevity are being sought by the club after the much-maligned reliance on loan players in recent times.

Curzon Ashton have lost their last two games against play-off contenders York City and in-form Gainsborough Trinity.

They, like their visitors this weekend, find themselves in mid-table, yet not out of reach of the play-offs themselves.

The close nature of the league table means that if a side from the middle of the pack are able to go on a run of form, the upper reaches of the league are still within sight.
