Crescent Road crossing has seen many tragedies over the years but the last time a car ended up on the tracks was in December 2008 when a woman dressed as a clown drove onto the tracks. Qlocal takes a look back.

A female motorist escaped certain death tonight when she drove her car onto a live train track at Crescent Road level crossing, Birkdale, Southoport. The accident happened at approximately 5:30pm (Saturday 13th December 2008).

The woman who was dressed up in a clowns outfit thought she was driving into Dover Road but ended up driving on the railway line.

She left her car engine running and immediately got out of her vehicle and walked to safety.

There was a Southport bound train only minutes away at Hillside station when the accident happened.

The vehicle remains wedged on the track.

The emergency services are at the scene.

Think it was a clown both times.

For the sake of pure pedantry, the first clown incident was at Ainsdale.
