Lord Streets Eastern pavements will NOT be left in their present 'bitmac' state, Councillor Tony Dawson reports from Colorado USA where he is presently rehabilitiating at altitude after treatment for a serious respiration/circulation complaint.

    Councillor Dawson says:

"I have been in contact with Sefton Council Chief Executive Margaret Carney, who reassures me that not only will this temporary bitmac patch-up situation be improved but the entire section of footway on the landward side of Lord Street is to be completely re-laid."

"There will be re-use of Southport tiles to create a two meter 'verge strip' from the back of the kerbstones along a longer length of footway than are currently occupied by these tiles. Some of the residual tiles will also be used to create detail around some of the tree pits as has previously been done along Lord Street. "

" Mrs Carney informs me that It is currently planned that the the remainder of the pavement (from the strip of Southport tiles to the back edge of the footway) are going to be reinstated in PCC flags. These pavement works are planned to start next week and last for two weeks."

"While I am pleased that this bitmac mess will not be left any longer than necessary, I remain disappointed that the Council did not consult with the Southport Civic Society before making the proposed changes. To Southport residents, Lord Street is our prime conservation area, not just 'any old street'."

    Don't hold your breath, though.

If you look down Market Street (along the side of the Eighty-Eight Bar) you'll see a similar patchwork effort that's been there for years.

But Cllr Dawson will get his moment of glory, just like Neville Chamberlain with his bit of paper.

So they (Cllr Barton did the same) jump up and down & create a fuss over something that was always intended as a temporary fix, then want credit for finally accepting that it was a temp' fix?!

What has happened to all the missing tiles?
Quite a few have been removed, not only from the curb edge but also around the trees in that area.
We want the original tiles putting back please!
