I wonder if Mr Pugh's "split Sefton" campaign will still go ahead? Probably quietly disappear now as people have seen through that well used ploy at election time. Shame really as he could have made a difference.

What "trick" is that? Surely it's more of the Lib Dem trick of peppering us with leaflets saying "labour can't win here" and diluted the labour vote....plus the added "trick" of the past 20 years of looking like they've achieved something for the town? Plus the Lib campaign was highly personal and nasty so glad it backfired....our libs on the council and nationally don't work well with others.
I'd have preferred Liz Savage representing us but suppose we should get behind Damien to try and use a better level of influence albeit less given the wider results.

Potentially very fragmented party at a local level with the usual faces of Cllr Dawson and Shaw not putting their weight behind the campaign as you'd normally see them on any photo opportunity. Be interesting if they can work with each other let alone other parties after this.

I doesn't matter who owns Homebase, it's who owns the building that they occupy and it certainly isn't Homebase. If the landlord was to get a better deal from Sainsubry's than they were from Homebase then there would be no competition.

That's an interesting accusation. What makes you think former MP John Pugh "encouraged Tesco to expand everywhere in Southport"? How, exactly, would an MP do that?

You do realise that Liz Savage was the Labour candidate, and that Labour have been running Sefton Council (including Southport) for the last 5 years?
For instance, who do you think closed 3 out of Southport's 4 Libraries (whilst keeping 3 open in Bootle)? It certainly wasn't the Lib Dems, but your friends in the Labour Party.

There was very little tactical voting - people voted in accordance with how they viewed the situation in Southport and global politics in general

It's always someone else's fault with the Libs isn't it? How about the scenario in which we've paid and elected the councilllors and they've failed to be effective as a minority, so locally or nationally what's the point in voting Lib if all we get is "it's someone else's fault but you must vote Lib to keep other nasty parties out"?

To be honest - If I had been a young student and had read Corbyn's policies regarding abolishing student loans, I would have voted Labour. But I am older, and much wiser now and know that it was Labour who introduced these Loans in the first place, not only introduced them, but increased them on three successive occasions - as a young person, that would make me think again! But the students today are too young to know this. However, I do agree that the student loans should be abolished - they are totally unfair and are outdated in the light of the employment situation as it is now. Understandably, they cannot be simply abolished - but these loans should be phased out over time.

It's interesting that you claim that it's always being someone else's fault with the Lib Dems.
I was actually responding to your claim that there were "20 years of poor outcomes for the town".
As the party you support i.e. Labour, have been in charge of Sefton Council (including Southport) for the last 5 years, I was just interested as to why you appear not to blame them for these "poor outcomes" that you refer to.

What have the lib dems achieves for southport in the last 20 years? You are underlining the argument that they were about as useful as a peashooter in stopping a charging buffalo

As this seems to concern you so much, would you care to tell us what you think your own Labour Party has achieved for Southport for the last 5 years when they have been in charge?

It's not surprising that you're trying to dodge this but I'll make it simpler for you:
1) the people of southport vote nationally and locally
2) they vote for who will to borrow a term from you "fight for southport"
3) the one with most votes is elected and paid a salary or allowances to represent them and their interests
4) they are not precluded from responsibility or accountability because they are not the biggest party
Surely you'd know that if you are a councillor?
So.....to avoid further embarrassment to your party as the paid electives to represent southport, regardless of size (as being in the coalition didn't help)....what have the Lib Dems done for southport?
