Cllr Barton commented...
I am delighted to now be able to report back on a successful long-standing campaign I first initiated back in 2014 shortly after being elected your local Representative here in Southport.
I have now been able to secure the full restoration on a like-for-like basis of the entire 110 Promenade Ornamental Lamp Posts situated along the Promenade stretching from Park Road West in the North down to the Esplanade in the South.
This is a particularly special Campaign to me and I am truly appreciative to the relevant Departments at Sefton Council once again for continuing to support my requests on behalf of my constituents and the wider Local Southport Community as this was my own local neighbourhood when I was a young infant myself. During my teenage years I would also frequent this area often with my School Rowing Club.
At this time I should like to also thank everyone who has so far committed to restoring their own period style properties along this elegant Road which has seen multi fold restoration and regeneration already from a multitude of Private Property Owners and Organisations alike.
This individual and collective pride in the local environment should be celebrated as such and I would strongly implore any remaining stakeholders to also join aboard this exciting Community- led Campaign to make Southport a brighter better place for all to live, work and visit. Onwards & Upwards!

Does this FOOL think he is Mr Southport? He certainly is not MY local representative and there are FAR MORE pressing needs than expensive ornate lamp posts it is 2017 not 1917. I would think EVERYONE having a roof over their heads or being able to feed their families is far more important.
Oh and by the way I thought your rowing team would have used the lake rather than the Promenade pavement, you may have been more successful as I have never heard any reports of a local school rowing team having any success. Perhaps you should really have tried concentrating on your rowing instead of gawping at lamp posts.
I doubt holidaymakers who come for their ONE visit to Southport even notice what YOU think is important.

You are being a TAD unfair.
I am sure that the refurbished lamp standards look much better than before.

I wonder how many like me who traverse the length of the promenade on a regular basis actually LOOK at the lamp posts. Though in your defence I suppose somewhere there is an anorak/corduroy trouser wearing group that stand salivating at different types of lamp post and compare photographs to be drooled over each night before bed.
Lamp posts are lamp posts a means of raising light to a level where it covers a certain section of the road. They are also a wake up call to IDIOTS who walk along in their own world of mobile phone screen importance. And a bit of a hindrance to cyclists and motorists who think the pavement is THEIR domain.

He didn't say that the Rowing Club did any rowing just that he hung out in the area, probably causing a nuisence.

If he did secure this from Sefton Council to find the refurbishment then does this mean he arguably has secured more investment in Southport than the Lib Dem’s have for Southport in both local and government politics.
They’re all campaigning about the “classic resort” but if he’s actually secured the funding then he’s achieved more than our petition wielding, bluster creating unworkable with libs!

So if he's secured the funding from Sefton then there must be something else that the money was intended for that won't now be done. I think we're entitled to know what that was.
Either that or Sefton we're going to do this work anyway and it was already budgeted for.

I wouldn’t have thought we’d ever get that level of detail but the whether doing anyway or not would be interesting as would disprove that we could get investment from Sefton despite the Lib Dem press releases to the contrary.
We know however when top lib dem cheerleader (whom we haven’t heard from in a while - maybe for purdah reasons?) is asked what the libs have achieved for Southport he can’t/won’t answer which would support their approach is wrong for Southport and therefore not the right people to represent us.
