On the hottest day of the year so far thousands of people descended on Ainsdale beach for a day out. With the beach being closed due to high tides (it never used to be) there was only the pavements and a small patch of waste ground to park on.
Hundreds of cars were strewn all over the place with the local traffic wardens apparently having a field day this morning.
Something needs to be done before the next high tides and a hot day as people will soon go elsewhere rather than come to Southport which is slowly being killed by Sefton Council.
Perhaps the newly elected Lib Dem could do something.
couple of emails from Qlocal readers,
I have just been to Ainsdale beach where I have witnessed the bedlam caused by the parking restrictions. There may be a high tide but it does not last 4 days! There is plenty of wasted land that could be used for alternative parking and it seems your traffic warden are taking great delight in putting fines on tourists cars! We need the tourist to bring revenue into our town and they are being treated shabbily!
It's about time something was done to help our town to be a success! Instead the council seem to prefer hinder it!
It’s a beautiful day and if you go down to Ainsdale beach you will find hundreds of cars trying to get on the beach – but they can’t because the gates are closed because of ‘High Tides’. Strange how the ice cream concessionaire has no problem being on the beach.
The cars? Well they are parked on the pavements and down the road to the discovery centre. Guess who else is there – the traffic wardens having a wonderful time booking them all.
So much for allowing them to park when the beach is closed. Might as well just put up a sign saying “Ainsdale is closed”

Chaos:
noun
1. a state of utter confusion or disorder; a total lack of organization or order.
2. any confused, disorderly mass.
Strewn
1. scatter or spread (things) untidily over a surface or area.
I don't think the definition of Chaos or Strewn can be applied. Look to have been orderly parked, even if they are on the pavement.
More exaggeration!

there was a lot of unhappy and confused people around at 12 mid day when I visited .lots of confusion about where to park with people getting out of cars to ask the wardens were to park , wardens having a good day booking lots of cars and people seeing them on the prowl and jumping back into cars and leaving ... I wonder how many will be back ????

So it's now the councils fault there was a high tide on a sunny day. And people decided to park illegally.
I wonder what the report would have been if that high tide claimed a life because the emergency services couldn't get to them in time due to inconsiderate drivers?
I went into town today with the wife and kids. nightmare trying to find somewhere to park. Went to Hesketh park instead.
Said to my wife at the time, that although a pain for us it's great for the town that it's so busy, but watch Qlocal make it a negative...
Get on the forum and hey presto. What do you know..

It would have been much more fun if we'd seen something like this:

Something does have to be done soon , these restrictions here and there are destroying everything that the town was ,many people I have met on holiday here have also commented on the beach and its access as well as other things like over paranoid security staff following them when they are about to spend hundreds on shopping , sefton have much to answer for .

If they are spending £100's on shopping they can stick a couple of pounds in a parking meter.

The high tide barely encroached on the car park area, along one stretch about 20ft long it had maybe come 6ft into the parking area, no damage would have occurred to ay cars there. Utterly ridiculous that the car park was closed on the hottest weekend of the year.
Perhaps someone should take a leaf out of the book of the locals at Mudeford Spit when unwanted gates appeared on one of their jetties.

Depends what there driving the family I spoke to had a motorhome if height barriers are installed its bye bye to there custom and thousands of others as there is often no room on the roads parking in town etc they will just go to other places like Blackpool ,if Sefton wants to turn away trade on people using vans /motor homes etc(as report last month) then its bad business sense especially as the UK has seen massive increases in people pursuing a holiday in the UK albeit camping or hotels .

And the council where to know this how exactly?
hindsight is an amazing thing isn't it.

So let me get this right, It makes bad business sense because all the parking was already full of people buying things.
Do any of you read what you have written before you press the submit button and think, **** that makes no sense I'll post it anyway?
Southport was packed, and some how you people think that is a bad thing!
Your logic is beyond my comprehension.

Two different things though , why should everyone else suffer because of "travellers " there's campers /motorhomes /vans all over the country as sales are booming 20% up last year surely any town looking to improve its tourism structure should embrace modern trends ? Why block every car park /beach whatever because of a minority who choose to dump litter and empty waste , the fact is not everyone behaves like that I have a camper and have always seen fellow campers leave places tidy , and never any trouble.

You would put your very expensive motor home on a beach? Not only that but a beach at high tide?
