A concerned local councillor is calling for further action as
travellers have returned to Southport, this time to the Kew Park and
Ride.
Councillor Tony Dawson, who is presently out of the country, saw the
latest Southport traveller invasion on social media. He has a formal
question listed to the leader of the Council for the council meeting
in Bootle on Thursday:
"(1) Question to the leader of the Council, Cllr Ian Maher:
In view of the fact that it is by now well-transmitted throughout the
land by social media that the Borough of Sefton, and Southport in
particular, are places where 'Travellers' can park their vehicles on
public or private land with relative impunity, even where there is
repeated criminal activity witnessed. will the Leader of the Council
convene a small working group involving the police and a member of any
Council group who is interested to see how the authorities in the
borough might create policies which enable a better response to reduce
the likelihood of such repeat invasions and improve effectiveness when
they take place?"
The question was put in for answer before the latest invasion.
"I am surprised that Sefton Council has not published a 'guide book
for travellers' showing them how to enter all the best sites in
Southport" says Cllr Dawson.

Whilst on Birkdale common today a white transit pickup with ladders on the back drew up and was looking at the newly installed bollards.
I wonder if the vehicle is from Kew park and ride ?

Has Cllr Dawson provided the details of these witnesses to these repeated criminal acts to the Police and does he know if the local authority have a traveller liaison officer/ department which is commonplace in councils who deal with traveller encampments.

Is Cllr Dawson trying to be more effective when on his "working holidays" than when in the borough or us only relevance if someone asked for one of his selfies? Mind boggles why we'd have a **local** Cllr on a "working holiday" 7000 miles away.
We never did get an answer if he had "called" anyone he was "calling upon" previously but hopefully he's aware the council do have a policy on travelers
https://www.sefton.gov.uk/housing/ge...ravellers.aspx
So rather than go "box office" shouldn't he focus to see if the policies are not working or being followed and amend them as appropriate as they are either not workable or followed by the problems and Lib Dem "concerns" fodder on the local news sites

The frustration is that it seems the regular rules of Law do not apply to travellers. Illegal parking, failing to pay for parking, tresspass, criminal damage, fly tipping, dumping of hazardous waste, the list goes on.
Try parking up in your caravan on Tulketh street car park free for a couple of nights and leaving a few bags of waste and see what happens.

The only way to deal with the problem is to make strong examples by impounding (some of) their vehicles at any cost – even if this involves the help of neighbouring police forces.
It will be very expensive on paper compared to the current 'hope it doesn't happen again, then do the minimum possible, pay for the cleanup and repairs, repeat ad nauseam' practice, but eventually, by hitting the Achilles' heel that is their vehicles, the council will gain a no-nonsense reputation. We would see substantially fewer carefree scumbags and the operation would end up paying for itself.

If you did park your caravan and got ticketed could you sue the Council for
discrimination?

I suspect that as usual the "authorities" will do the square root of bugger all.
If councillors actually listened to the concerns of the electorate this would have been sorted ages ago

they are only here for one reason..they want to earn money...from sadly stupid residents..the council should concentrate on informing all resisidents from employing casual whatever cutting your trees down, tarmacing, etc etc...if we keep giving them money they will keep taking it..

No discernible offence and Merseyside Police deliberately do not apply the law evenly when there is so what would be the point ?
