CCTV cameras and recording equipment have been installed on Lord St at the junction with Eastbank St.Traffic flow equipment has also been placed on each side of the lights.
Hopefully the Council are looking at ways of reducing congestion in the area.
They could start by getting rid of the bus and taxi lanes and removing the bus stops between Eastbank St and the Monument.

Bloody nuisance with the buses, many a time I've driven down Lord St and approaching the lights at the monument I've had to use the right hand lane because of a bus parked up but trying to get back into the left lane to go straight on is very difficult and a few times the buses just move on even though I'm indicating to move over they just ignore me or other drivers and move on, very frustrating at times.

Agree with the above.
When heading along Lord Street towards the police station and wanting to turn right at the lights also takes longer as all the traffic (none bus or taxi) is in the right hand lane coming the other way making the wait to turn right longer.

Well,Thats not surprising,as thats what we all have to do,its only a short while, thats what driving is about surely.ever since we passed the test, and what on earth is meant by,"none bus or taxi ",
We also thought it was a roundabout,,,,
We look forward to your reply ,

When driving down Lord Street from the police station when you get to the junction of St George's Place all the vehicles that are not a bus or a taxi all have to go in the outside lane, all of the time the inside lane is empty. If everyone was allowed to use both lanes that would halve the length of the queue meaning that they could all get through the lights at the monument, once they are all through cars turning right on London Street at the monument would be able to do so sooner.
Does that help?

In a town of Southport's size "Bus Lanes" are a complete waste of time we are not exactly a massive metropolis are we. A road the size of Lord St restricted as it is, is completely ridiculous as are chevron areas around roundabouts etc. You build a road for traffic to use not paint bloody white lines everywhere.

Bus lanes are for buses and Hackney carriages only not, private hire vehicles and why do buses pull out of bus lanes? They should stay in them, not our fault idiot Sefton council can't plan these properly is it?

Private hire can use the taxi lane in Southport, that came from the council.

I'm waiting for the first person, blind, sight restricted, or just out to make a fast buck, to trip over those boxes, and sue the council. Strange, a shop puts out an a board and it is classed as a danger to those with restricted sight. A pub or café pays the council and chairs and tables on the pavement aren't. Then the council puts things like that on the pavement, and they aren't a danger. What a strange world we live in.

in Formby there was a big outcry that the little box's that do the village wifi would stress the lamp post they got mounted on ..... meanwhile some one lashes a load of steel work to some ageing posts !!!

Or the cynics view would be - it' all to enable Sefton's 'lunatic planners' to find new ways of restricting traffic access to Lord Street so they can justify their stupid planned redevelopment which will certainly finally kill the town centre...........

Going back in time before they paved the bus pull - ins and did away with the stops at the Mounument, there was no trouble with bus congestion. Likewise at that time the stops on Lord St were past the traffic lights so didn't cause as much of a problem there.
In fact all the places they recently moved the bus stops to would have attracted a fine for obstruction in the past.

I do love the way people keep saying this until someone believes it - well they wont.
Private hire vehicles used for hire and reward/payment for facility are allowed to use taxi lanes.
PRIVATE HIRE = TAXI same thing
Sorry but its true, pass it on
