Southport make the midweek venture to Brackley Town in the hope of finally turning one point into three, on the back of four draws on the spin.

It is a fairly remarkable run, but one that Kevin Davies will be eager to see end.

If the Sandgrounders had managed to convert winning positions into three points in two of their recent stalemates, they would be only one point off the play-offs. This demonstrates how high a price they are paying, particularly for their generosity in defence.

Only four sides have a worse average of goals conceded per game than Southport’s 1.88, a statistic that demonstrates how much work the Sandgrounders are leaving themselves to do in order to earn the win that has eluded them since the start of September.

Scoring, on a positive note, has not been a problem since Davies’ appointment, with Sheffield United loanee Jordan Hallam making it two goals in two games against Curzon Ashton at the weekend.

Brackley are going well in the Vanarama National League North, and are on a four game streak of their own. This run, however, has produced 12 points out of 12.

The only way both of the sequences can end is if Sandgrounders produce an unlikely win, away from home against a high flying team on a Tuesday night after a winless two months.

Southport being Southport, don’t be too surprised if they return with three points.
