British Transport Police are monitoring crossings with ANPR vehicles in Southport today.
Drivers who attempt to beat the barriers face the prospect of a fine.
Level Crossing Awareness
The Level Crossing Awareness Course (LCAC) is for motorists who have driven through a level crossing after the warning lights have been activated.
The Level Crossing Awareness scheme helps drivers to understand the dangers and potential consequences of failing to comply with automatic level crossing signals.
The course lasts 2.5 hours, and the price depends on the venue location you choose

So "technically" if you cross the line you get a fine,as all drivers should know that an AMBER light means "STOP" the same way as any other traffic light warnings, also known as an "amber gambler" in driving terms when you drive through.

People wouldn't try to beat the barrier if they weren't down for so long.
