Since the closure of the BHS store on Chapel Street in July last year the building has been targeted by vandals on several occasions.

The building is now becoming an eyesore in the middle of the Town Centre.

At the time of the closure the Southport BID commented...

Andrew Sloman, manager of Southport BID said the loss was a damning blow.

He said: “We are immensely saddened to hear that such an iconic store as BHS has gone into administration.

“While it is important to recognise that this is at a national level, jobs of course will be lost here. ”

The future of the Chapel Street building remains uncertain but high business rates and asbestos issues in some areas of the property will pose a barrier to any businesses looking to take over the site.

No.... No problem lets build a tidal lagoon eh, money well spent as the Town Centre is irrelevant. Spend the money on the basics.... A Lagoon????

Sort the Town out first. THEN deal with "Blue Sky Dreams"

You couldn't write the script at times.

Somehow I doubt that energy companies considering spending money on a tidal lagoon would be prepared to spend it on town centre shops instead.

Are you one of those people who think the money for everything comes from a single pot of money controlled by the council?

Not at all, and I am well versed in your comments from time to time. My point is, I don't think ANY repeat Any energy company gives a toss on any Town centre full stop.

Just that this stupid idea, "At the moment" should be put on the back burner to say the least.

If the country as a whole was serious about this which it isn't then it should come from central government initiative not a local council.

Now tell me, where do you think the cash should come from???

I don't think anyone has suggested the council would be paying for a tidal lagoon.
The money would come from the energy companies who would be selling the energy produced.
That doesn't mean local councillors can't voice their support for it.
Or are you saying the council's sole focus should be vacant shops in properties they don't own?
