Voters living in West Lancashire Borough Council’s Hesketh-with-Becconsall Ward will go to the polls on Thursday 19 July 2017 for a By-election to elect a new Councillor. If you live in Hesketh-with-Becconsall Ward and are registered to vote you can vote in the elections even if you can’t get to your polling station on that day.

If you don’t think you will be able to go to your polling station then you can apply for a postal vote. Alternatively you can apply for a proxy vote, where someone you nominate can go to your polling station to cast your vote on your behalf.

Kim Webber, Returning Officer for the By-election, said: “You don’t need to be away or be housebound to apply for a postal or a proxy vote. Contact the Borough Council as soon as you can and make sure you can vote in this Hesketh-with-Becconsall Ward By-election. Anyone who wants to vote in this election, either by post, proxy or going to the polling station, must be on the Electoral Register.”

Register to Vote

Hesketh-with-Becconsall Ward residents who received poll cards for, or voted in, the May 2018 Borough Council elections do not need to register to vote again to vote in the Hesketh-with-Becconsall Ward By-election. If in doubt, people can check whether they’re registered to vote by calling the Council’s elections office on 01695 585014.

You can fill in an online registration by visiting https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. For more information please email elections.office@westlancs.gov.uk. If you do not have access to the internet please ask the elections office for a paper registration form to be sent to you. The closing date to register to vote in the Hesketh-with-Becconsall Ward By-election is Tuesday 3 July 2018.

Postal or Proxy Votes

To apply for a postal or proxy vote form please call the Elections Office on 01695 585014, email elections.office@westlancs.gov.uk or download an application form from from www.westlancs.gov.uk/howtovote. Or call in to: The Council Offices, 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, West Lancashire, L39 2DF. Your completed application form for a postal vote must reach the Council by 5pm on Wednesday 4 July 2018, and completed application forms for a proxy vote must arrive by 5pm on Wednesday 11 July 2018.

Emergency Proxy Votes

Applications to vote by emergency proxy at these elections can be applied for on grounds of physical incapacity, where that physical incapacity occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 11 July, or for work/service reasons again occurring after 5pm on Wednesday 11 July, and must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, West Lancashire, L39 2DF by 5pm on Thursday 19 July 2018.
