Merseyside Police are appealing for information following an assault during a burglary in Southport today (Monday, 26 September).



At about 11.50am police were called to an address in Newton Street to a report that a 48-year-old man had been stabbed to the abdomen after confronting two men at his address. The man is currently at hospital where his condition is described as not life threatening.

Merseyside police are looking to trace two men that are described as both being about six feet tall, with black hooded tops, one had black jeans on and one with black tracksuit bottoms.

A full investigation has been launched and a cordon has been set around the scene to allow for a forensic examination to take place. CCTV and house to house enquiries are on-going.

Detective Inspector Robert Moss said: “This is a disturbing incident that has left the victim with a serious injury. Enquiries are at an early stage and I encourage anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward.

“Crimes such as this will not be tolerated and we will do all we can to trace the offenders.”
