A letter from an Ainsdale resident has been sent to Margaret Carney the chief of Sefton Council. The letter is below.
Dear Margaret,
Could you explain why the road works on Station Road require the road to be closed for 3 weeks? That effectively cuts the village in half and makes it very difficult for our elderly residents in the Shore Road area to get to local shops. It is also the village Gala weekend on the 4th of June which relies on residents from both sides of the line to attend. Why cant the work be done at night? Why can't the road be open at weekends?
Can you also explain why the beach parking closures last days? Surely, once the tide has gone out the cars could be allowed to park on the beach? You are losing revenue and we are loosing our tourist industry!
Finally, the increase in parking fees in Southport is shameful. Again you are jeopardising our tourist trade and putting an unfair levy on the residents of Southport who wish to support trade in their home town. Please reconsider and spread the load across the borough. Southport does not deserve to be the council's cash cow!

Yes, people should be allowed to drive onto the beach and should only have to leave when council staff have scoured the sand dunes and rounded everyone up moments before the high tide is due. What could possibly go wrong?

You'd have been better popping that letter in a bottle and throwing it into the sea. More chance of getting a reply.

............and the Ainsdale 'road works' are for altering the bus stops by the station, making them bigger (removing pavement area), so the buses can turn in fully rather than half in and block the road!
So technically nothing to do with the road, just the pavement area?

Where are the recently elected Southport Lib dem councillors and what are they doing about this? I thought they were "fighting for Southport"? Actually they're completely ineffectual. If you want change in Southport it's time to change the elected representatives.

Do you actually live in Southport, ecclefechan?
If you do why don't you just get in touch with one of your councillors if you have a problem? You will find contact details at http://modgov.sefton.gov.uk/moderngo...&VW=LIST&PIC=0

Actually, the paving area has grown to facilitate people to get on and off the bus more easily. So they will block the road fully now.
I am quite sure there are ways and means to allow cars to park on the beach after the tide has been in, as it only takes an hour before the tide is way out beyond the parking area at Ainsdale. Indeed it is very rare the tide even gets to the parking area! it certainly does not need to be closed 24/7 for 4 days!
