Action is being sought by a Town Centre Councillor over two Grede 2 listed
Telephone kiosks which are rotting outside Southport Town Hall.
Councillor Tony Dawson says:
"Last month, I took up with the Council's Chief Executive and Director of
Planning the question of why the Council has been allowing these Gilbert
Scott creations to not be maintained by their owners. I have been assured
that appropriate steps will be taken but the question arises as to whether
they can survive in that prominent spot without a purpose. Attempts have
been made to let them out to someone who might have a suitable idea to use
them in an enterprising fashion. Unfortunately, they have attracted not
interest but vandalism.
It is more than a little disappointing that these phone boxes right outside
our town hall have been subject to such damage, as well as neglect. But we
do have to realise that the Town Hall is not manned for over 12 hours in
most days and vandalism tends to occur during times of darkness."

Barton won't be happy if he thinks Tony Dawson is trying to steal his thunder.

Obsolete relics of a bygone age. Remove them and put them in the Atkinson museum. Problem solved.

Biggest whopper in the Town, you must be exhausted from all the band wagons you jump on. Pathetic.
These councillors are pure Dinosaurs and a waste of public funds. Not even worth a pack of digestives.

Minimum cost of a call from a payphone, on the stations at least is 60p
Wonder how often they are used.

Don`t think Barton will be too bothered by this important matter. Probably busy going over the script and learning his lines for his forthcoming stage appearance.

I'm sure Cllrs Barton and Dawson could achieve far more for the people who voted for them if they worked together rather than against each other.
The constant "I did this first..." is pathetic and an embarrassment to those who voted them both in. The fact Cllr Dawson on the other site has to chirp in with "I did this first" shows how out of touch they are with how they could be achieved as well as a reactive post of himself in front of the phone boxes.
Maybe they should both resign as clearly can't operate in the best interests of the town over their own personal egos. We didn't vote them in to do battle with each other.

Cllr Dawson was probably stamping feet too as looks like he's ran down there today for that photo given it features today's vandalism! Is however like two bald men fighting over a comb if phoning someone up to ask them to do something is newsworthy and worth the effort to try and prove who got there first!

Seconded - what I find amazing is that the political class still don't get just how much contempt they are held in by all but a their respective acolytes.

More to the point what does the Councillor expect staff in the Town Hall to do about phone boxes that belong to BT? Why doesn't the Councillor contact BT about them and leave the Town Hall staff to be getting on with their council duties?
