Southport Football Club are proud to announce another huge step forward in youth football provision with the launch of ‘Academy Southport FC’.

Academy Southport will build upon the success of the clubs professional development phase section which has recently seen youth team player, Lewis Doyle graduate into the first team squad.

The club already have a thriving junior section, with teams from U7 through to U21 for a number of years, but last season took the approach to use the U17s, U18s and U21s squads as part of the new-look Academy.

All other junior teams will remain part of Southport FC’s excellent community delivery, this just provides an extra clear pathway for local talent to flourish whilst wearing the Southport FC badge and colours.

Following on from improvements made in the Professional Development Phase (PDP) last season the club will invest a significant amount of time and resource into the section to provide funded football for three squads and double the amount of training time for the players to further develop their skills.

“We believe in caring for young people and having an impact on their future. The Academy will help us to do that and continue to provide opportunities for young players to progress to first team football” said Cameron Foster, Head of Professional Development at the club.

The academy will train four hours per week and have a match-day schedule on Sunday’s.
