Can't say I'm over excited about the idea of driving 50mph down there. But I can see why they have done it and the fact is it works. Which is unusual for speed reduction methods.
Still seem to be just as many accidents, if not more - so not sure "it works" is correct?

Just seems to be delaying the majority of capable drivers. As has been said several times in earlier posts, this road was previously generally safe apart from Tarlton Straights where it goes to a single carriage way. Many of the so called safety improvements have just made it a frustration to drive on and with the same number of accidents seemingly being reported - just not seeing how safety has improved. What has happened is allot of people just think LCC are making matters worse with their "no value" road changes/round-a-bouts/hatchings etc with now a lengthy SPECS system added. It is LCC that need the Specs on to look again at the factual effectiveness of all this.

They should now rip all the nonsense out and just have the 50mph average speed camera. Nothing else is needed.
Now at least if you have an accident it's at 50mph not 80-90+ That's what I mean by it works. Well unless of course people like getting 3 points and £200 fines.

We are going round in circles here even the Dept of Transport are looking at perhaps "increasing" the speed in contraflow and roadworks from 50mph!!!

Its not always speed, if you smack someone at 30, okay the aftermath is perhaps not as bad as 40, 50,60 whatever, you have still hit them!!

Its bad driving and no matter which way "ceam" you want to butter it up it will always be that way.

I've driven in Germany and by Jesus its fast but you learn to deal with it, there is no rage on getting flashed from behind you simply move over, end of. Driving improves... I am not advocating speed willy nilly 40 in a 20mph zone bonkers, however on roads like the A59, 565 and 570 around here in good clear and safe conditions no problem. I've driven at over 100 in Italy across empty roads no problem yes in excess I admit, don't want another clock by the way and safe as houses, why........ concentration!!!!

So do we keep slowing them down and down, basically its ineffectual better to take them off the road for "Not" mastering the art of driving.

I agree, I'd rather bad drivers where off the road too. Unfortunately that's hard to police. As the only thing we appear to be able to control is speed. Everything else need someone to catch you in the act. Which with our ever dwindling police force becomes less and less common.

As for not being safer, The fact people could stick to the sorter 50mph zones has caused the whole stretch to be made a 50 average zone. So you can blame the drivers that could slow down for half a mile or so at the accident black spots.

One area I've noticed it make a massive difference is on motorways. No longer do you have ********s doing 80-90 in work areas just to slam the brakes on for spot speed cameras. There is a constant 50mph through the whole zone now. Yes is does slow you down in your little tin box, but it also keeps others safe.
Do I not recall you saying that you wouldn't be sticking to the 20mph speed limits? and that you would continue to drive at 30?
    Pot calling kettle black.

You do, But your not getting my point. If your stupid enough to drive through an average speed camera to fast you know your going to get caught. I also said the only reason people are moaning is because it works.
If ever police even bothered to police 20mph zones I wouldn't be on here *****ing about it. I'd just pay up. But your right I don't stick to 20mph zones. I stick to 30mph, and if the conditions mean I have to do 20, 15 or 10 mph I'll do that.
20mph zone are completely different as they have been introduced as a blanket speed by local councils, and are completely inappropriate for many of the roads they are on. To the point they become a hazard in themselves.
