Odd, my Focus ST is more than capable of running in 6th at 50mph. Also very economical as that speed as it happens.

Also it USED to be national speed limit with limits in just the danger spots, But I guess people like yourself where not able or wouldn't keep to those limits either. So now WE ALL inc. me have to stick to 50mph for the full stretch. Can't say I'm over excited by the fact but sadly you tend to have to work to the lowest common denominator.

I'm not God like or an angel either. But if your stupid enough to speed in an average speed area you deserve all you get just for being STUPID.

Fact is it does what it set out to do, and that's slow traffic down at the junctions. Disadvantage is it's slowed you down for the full stretch to achieve that. Drivers fault not councils or governments.

There you go again, I don't speed in the "Average " speed restricted area, I'm not one of the 1691, you assume i'm stupid etc etc you really must get off your perch.

Saying that though, yes I've been done twice for speeding, first 103mph £60 & 3 points, 2nd on the Tarleton stretch before the restrictions at 95mph, £60 and 3 points..... Now work that one out, i,m sure you will.

Silly yes, but on both occasions the Police saw fit not to ban me.

Don't recall saying you did speed in the average speed area.

Do you want a medal or something for not getting banned, and the police did nothing of the sort, the court didn't ban you not the police.
But you do admit doing 95mph in the NOW restricted zone, So I guess you are one of the idiots that have forced the councils hand to install a very expensive, paid by the public average speed zone. Congratulations. Have a chocolate watch.

Didn't go to court, me doing what I did nothing, to do really for the council putting or "forced" setting up the 50mph zone, don't like medals, tell me how much you paid as a contribution to setting it up, bet you can't, don't need a chocy watch, got a Rolex LOL, silly conversation really you or I won't change a thing with the keyboard warrior stuff, good banter though, like arguing with God at times.

How much did it cost me? Nothing as I don't live in Lancashire. But it did cost the tax payers, and yes what you and thousands like you did has contributed to the need to install the average speed cameras.

BTW I can top trump you with 5 points and a £260 fine (22 years ago, so you go work that one out). That was in an Astra GTE. So as you can see I like to speed in fast cars too. So like I said no angel. Oddly never got done or even stopped in 5 years of owning a subaru impreza.

None of this changes the fact these where introduced to slow traffic down, and guess what.. They work. Better than any static speed cameras, or Police vans.

So you see we are the same, Speeding, getting off with it, etc etc. Poor choice in cars though Imprezza!!! nearest thing to "pavement pizza" on a Friday night. As for working it out.... when the nice Policeman sat you in his car I bet his first question was..... " Do you know how fast you were going Sir?"

Now... that was what I was asked twice!!! and I said 100 plus and 95. Moral of the story, not glorifying it at all because yes it was too fast, however I KNEW EXACTLY what I was doing hence I suppose why they dealt with me leniently??? The same with you or you are just jammy.

The trouble now is on ALL our roads people don't know how fast they are going, don't know what they are doing and in fact are shite drivers!!

The deaths per whatever are not much higher in Germany and they go unlimited on Autobhans , so its not just speed, its bad driving. But we will beg to differ I suppose. Till next time

I'd agree with all the above.

    Funny thing, speeding.

People who argue for greater punishment for other law-breakers don't seem to grasp the hypocrisy of complaining when THEY are caught breaking the law.

There is no need for police to go to special measures to advise you they are monitoring that piece of road. The speed limits apply on every road.

Sadly we can't let people decide for themselves what speed is safe, largely because notoriously people over-rate their own competence as drivers.

And yes, speed IS connected to harm. Every increment of 10mph serves to reduce your time to react , even when you are not to blame.

[QUOTE=Ceam;6616379]Awww, do you like a good speed down the Tarleton bypass?
50mph to slow for you in an accident hot spot?[QUOTE]

As far as I recall the only accident HOT SPOT is where they made a dual carriageway into a single carriageway for 100 yards where there appears to be an insurmountable ability to cross from one side to the other but failed to improve things. So a blanket 50 is obviously the answer not closing the cross over and opening the TWO lanes up again which seems to be beyond the intelligence of the road planning glitterati. They could even leave the stretch from Mere Brow roundabout to the end of the bypass at Blackgate lane at 50 to appease the doubters.

  11. Ceam says:22/10/2017 12:50 PM
And black gate lane, the small roundabout, Riverside caravan park, but like I said they had done something to help this by introducing a short 50mph zone. Drivers didn't stick to it, hence the blanket 50mpg zone. As I said drivers fault that it's been introduced.

I can remember back in the 70's the bridge and turn over the A59 over the Douglas and canal at Tarleton being designated an "Accident Hotspot" its now down graded to a "Weak Bridge" FFS.

This is DRIVER INABILITY to "Drive" nothing more, the A565 now is more dangerous.... White Lines, Markings, Speed restrictions, cameras etc etc etc.... Sorry these roads are not accident blackspots, it is POOR driving.

when I learnt to drive, with a first time pass and 12 lessons, not bragging but we were taught well, I remember the instructor ( Est Lin) methinks on many occasion drilling into me one vital piece of knowledge... "treat everyone on the road as a ****** idiot" and I tell you what that is how you avoid "Accident" hotspots.

  13. Ceam says:22/10/2017 04:22 PM
I agree, but the solution is to slow the poor drivers down.

I'd imagine the bridge is a weak bridge due to it's age and the amount of people that have hit it. So I don't see the issue with calling it a weak bridge?

"Sorry these roads are not accident blackspots, it is POOR driving."
True, but that makes them accident hot spots. don't really see your line of thinking here?

I'd love to see you pass a modern day test. I passed mine 30 years ago. Wouldn't like to try pass a modern day test.

Things, quotes whatever get lost in translation here, Passing a test is one thing, driving safely is another. My driving instructor said to me, " now you have passed you will now start learning to drive" and he was right.

The bridge, you are missing my point, it was the only piece of road I can think of around here Tagged with "Accident Blackspot" it isn't now, what's changed the bend is the same??? And you've hit the nail on the head "the amount of people who have HIT it" It is a simple bend over a bridge, go round it at 25 or 30 simples don't concentrate or belt around it at over 40, guess what you have an accident. Not rocket science is it???

I haven't touch wood had an accident in nearly 40 years, driven over 30K miles on the continent and over here no i'm not bragging I was taught right and they don't do it nowadays, sorry they don't hence having to put restriction after restriction on slowing people down. You are right to a point they have to as standards of driving are so poor.

We will beg to differ on this I can feel it in my water LOL

Can also add that on an open road would expect to be able to drive in the top and most economical gear on my car, at 50mph in 6th gear the car is on tick over only and certainly not running freely, whereas at say 60mph the engine runs easily, my fuel usage and logically emissions are at their lowest, what you have now is virtually a single lane procession.
For once, I’ve got to agree with you, and it sounds like like Ceam is vying for PNP’s prick of the month title.

Why, because I think people are idiots for speeding in an average speed area?

Or because I think drivers have inflicted the 50mph zone upon themselves by not sticking to the old speed limits in the first place?

Can't say I'm over excited about the idea of driving 50mph down there. But I can see why they have done it and the fact is it works. Which is unusual for speed reduction methods.
