An Ormskirk QLocal reader has contacted the news desk with claims that a Southport charity shop's delivery charges are a ‘rip off’.
The man and his wife bought a used desk and work station off the British Heart Foundation shop on Lord St for a very reasonable £60 but the man was gobsmacked to be told that delivery to Ormskirk - just eight miles away - would be an eye watering £44, a rise on last month by a whopping £11!
“We had no choice to pay it but negotiated the 'old' rate at £33," said the 61-year-old who’s asked not to be named.
"I thought it might be coming in a Roller the price they wanted!"
The shop manger explained that private contractors set the rates for delivery.

I do not want to get into a slanging match.
But I pay £50 for a Southport to Ormskirk delivery
£30 for a local Southport delivery.
The delivery services I use have 2 men in the truck, they are insured and do a fabulous job.
I did buy from Heart Foundation a very large bookcase 7ft x 7ft and they delivered for me at a very reasonable rate.
I find Taxi Truck in Southport offer a very good service as do most.
good luck with your desk, by the way how much do heart foundation give to charity as a %.
PS. I was shocked to read this.

No choice but to pay it?
How about saying no and going elsewhere?
How about hiring a self drive van for about £15?
How about asking one of numerous man and van services for a quote?
