I live in Southport and have just received a phone call supposedly from British telecom to advise me that my internet is faulty. The number that called is 01422182279. When I tried to return the call it comes up as not a real number. I suspected as much and fortunately I gave out no information. Be aware they could be going through local numbers.

I do not subscribe to BT - that service was a scam on its own! I have now taken up with a different service provider and my phone bill has reduced by two thirds and I only get the odd marketing call instead of five or more a day when with BT.

Thats unusual as it is the number the scammers work on.

I wouldn't call a number back it has been known for these scammers to charge your bill for £££.


Report to TPS if you're signed up to them, I get very few landline calls so I'm always wary especially if during the day.

Most of the scam calls are on spoofed numbers so reporting to TPS is probably a waste of time, some phone providers have an automatic call baring service for known numbers.

You know its a scam if BT calling you, try contacting them to actually speak to someone
