It looks great now Tilly....one again, many thanks to the Cobham brothers for their kindness in tidying up Maurice's grave, lets hope we will be able to keep it in the same condition.

I was trying to put some pictures on this link https://www.qlocal.co.uk/forums/showt...t=derek+cobham but couldn't so thought I would 'try' and put them on here.
My mum, her dog, my hubby and myself went to my Grandma's grave yesterday and also Maurices to put some artificial flowers on and took some pics hope I can successfully put them on here for you to see
(To:- Dave & Derek Cobham)
I would would really appreciate it if you could let me know what was used to clean the stones up on Maurice's grave please, as my Grandmas needs a good clean up and Maurices looks brill. Many thanks

Thanks Tatty, I think it is important to let people know that Maurice (and any other firemen who have died) will be not be forgotten.
We wanted to put the flowers on last Sunday BUT the weather was too bad never mind it was sunny but cold yesterday

Did anyone see the pic in last weeks Southport Visiter?
Here is the pic and sthe story:
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l108/tillymint4/Maurice.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>
A sombre event provides the subject matter for this week's Pic From The Past, as we join a fire brigade funeral procession in 1956.
Lying in state is a 30-year-old fireman tragically killed on a training ground exercise at Southport's Albert Road station.
Reader George Taylor brought the picture in to share and knows a great deal about the circumstances but finds himself stumped by the photographer's location. George said: "It was November 1956 and a Home Office inspector requested a certain trial to be done, which included extension of the double ladder.
"This particular one was very old and about 90ft long.
"They wanted men up the ladder but didn't appreciate the windy conditions, because when they got above the roof, the wind took the top off the ladder and he came down with it."
Do you know where the procession was heading and where the frame was shot?

Thanks Barrie, I will print them and take them to my mum and dads tomorrow.
Hey DixieRoy, don't feel humbled by what we do, a promise is a promise, it was made and we must see it is kept, think people on here may like to be kept updated, but thanks again I will pass this to my parents

Todays Visiter, thought he deserved more than the Visiter wrote really:-
Routine exercise ended in tragedy at fire station
HE was just 30 years old and an only child.
Maurice Evans’ death in a routine training exercise at Manchester Road’s fire station rocked the community
He was a man with everything to live for, a loving fiancee called Margaret and a reputation as a “popular character” who was always ready for a laugh.
But all of that was gone on one November evening in 1956 when Maurice turned up for work.
Peter Walton, who can be seen second from the left on the photograph featured in Pic From the Past on April 20, was on duty that fateful day.
He told LookBack: “Annually Her Majesty’s Fire Inspector would come and one of the things that would usually take place was a few drills in the yard to show how training was.
“In those days effective the it was Fire and Ambulance together and Maurice was on ambulance that night but because we were putting on a show he was told to go on the turntable ladder to help out a bit.
“The ladder went up but unfortunately it was a bit gusty, which isn’t something you really notice on the ground.
“Once the ladder got beyond the height of the law courts, the wind hit and before it had chance to correct itself, the wind hit again and the ladder crashed to the ground.”
Walter Ackers had just finished a day shift and had handed over to Maurice’s team just hours before the tragedy occurred.
He said: “It’s difficult to explain, we just couldn’t believe it had happened, it was like a big family in those days.”
Walter’s wife, Kathleen Ackers’ sister was engaged to Maurice.
Kathleen said: “She was devastated and, as a nurse, stayed with him while he was in hospital until he died.
“It was just terrible.”
Jean Unsworth remembers the effect the death had on the Evans family.
She said: “We had a corner shop then and the mother used to come in and she was devastated because they only had him, he was the only one.”
Peter Walton added: “He was a popular character.
“You expect if you go out for a fire there will be risks, but when you’re just doing a simple exercise in the yard to satisfy an inspection then it really hits home.”
