our boiler has been going since the 80s as well , had a new pump years ago , flushed and treated ..... all it does is the heating .. as its so simple it just keeps going !!

Advice we were given when installing one in the annex was still make sure powerful enough to keep a good flow to the shower

Combi boilers in general are useless. You cant run the taps too fast or the water starts to go cold. If you have a large bath then the water cools before you can fill it. I'd stick with the old immersion heater if possible, if not then get a new boiler but just not a combi.

It really boils down to this,

the higher the kw of the boiler, the better the flow rate of hot water will be.
