Insurance companies have just had their most profitable year on record with billions of profits this year.

I've just renewed with the Co-op for £160 less per year than my current provider and as a member I receive £50 in Co-op vouchers - quite pleased with the deal.

It is very much a lottery, or think of a number!
Co-op £70 more
ASDA £154 more
Sainsbury £331 more
Tesco £260 more
Quidco £163 more (with their cashback)
It most definitely pays to shop around, how are these quotes calculated
How can they be so vastly different, my dearest was £6,500

As a Co-op member I'll certainly try them this year, thanks for that!

In pre internet time we used Insurance Brokers who checked the renewal charge and pointed us in the right direction, we called them robbing gits as well!

The broker isn't the robbing git, that would be like blaming my PC for the quotes.
I don't see insurers as robbing gits, a few minutes of my time gives me plenty of choices and I make an decision. What no one seems to be able to explain is how I can receive quotes from £259 to £6,500 it makes no sense.
Over 100 companies have the same details so why are the figures so vastly different?

They all view different risks differently, some view things such as vehicle colour, maritial status, time at address, job titles, all differently and put weightings against each and possible combinations.

As far as I'm concerned, the so-called 'no claims discount' is a complete farce.
You have a year without claiming, the insurance company has had the full benefit of your premium with a minor admin cost to open the policy and send a renewal, but they always increase the premium for the following year.
I know that no-claims discounts go up to a maximum, but it's still a rip-off when you think of it as a simple transaction. Why is it that your policy doesn't just go up by the rate of inflation?
Not that it really bothers me - I change insurer every year, because I've never had a 'fair' renewal price.

I've been with Quote Me Happy since 2015 last year I received my renewal quote and did my usual searches and there was a comparison quote from QMH £50 cheaper than my renewal. I rang them up and was told that they don't price match simply let my current policy lapse and take out the new one, I received two emails minutes apart one saying 'sorry to see you leave' the other 'welcome to QMH'
Don't count on loyalty from any service provider always shop around.

According to the 'Martin lewis' website, its cheaper to take out Car insurance 21 days or earlier, it indicates you're shopping around for the cheapest deal and companies will always offer you a favourable quote.

No claims bonus is a complete Ripoff, if you have a claim not only do you lose the No Claims Bonus (or part of) but your base premium the following year increases, if you have protected No Claims you pay beforehand the money you would lose the following year if you had a claim.

The other annoying thing is that your own insurance company would rather do a knock-for-knock deal with the other insurer, assuming both parties were equally at fault, whatever the evidence, rather than investigate what actually happened. Absolute farce but easier for them.
