People driving below the limit are more dangerous on the road than those that don't.
On a recent speed awareness coarse I was told to drive at " an
appropriate speed" in "all circumstances ."

    Interesting

I usually use the speed limit + 10% as a guide, but on some roads such as waterloo road/liverpool road you often see people doing 40mph, in times like that I will just keep up with the traffic.

I would love to see how much slow drivers cost Britains economy each year.

There was a blonde woman (30's?) in a white sporty car driving about 60mph along Lulworth Road yesterday afternoon. I was driving on the opposite side of the road and gestured to her to slow down and a man walking did the same to her. Idiots like her cause accidents. I am sure she would like people going that speed past her house.

I have two idiots constantly driving at high speeds down my 20mph road in Ainsdale (narrow side road) - a small white BMW/Audi and a red Polo/Golf. Complete idiots who don't give a toss about anyone else.

    You are not getting it!

The limit is the maximum allowed anything above is breaking the law, it is not compulsory to drive to maximum.

And now back in the real world ...

The posted limits are a guide, unless you are about to go past a speed camera, or mobile camera van.

The speedo in your car doesn't show your true speed. If you are travelling at 30mph according to your car, you are in reality doing around 27. According to the department of transport 6/10 drivers feel irate and are more likely to do stupid things to get past you when you are travelling at a speed below the flow of traffic.

When driving slowly you may be breaking the Law? Impeding the smooth flow of traffic could be as illegal as speeding.
Driving slowly Is fine as long as you don't cause tailbacks. Personally I found those who drive slowly are likely to hesitate when passing parked Cars or driving across junctions. They are a hazard to other road users.
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants, they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

    Your still not getting it!
A limit is a maximum, it is the law, driving faster is breaking the law.

Driving above the speed-limit is also an instant fail on the driving test. As a neighbour of ours found out when she entered a 20 limit at above 20mph during her test - she didn't make the same mistake next time around.....Believing speed limits are merely there as a 'a guide', you'd wonder how some people ever got their license, lol!

Agreed. But impeding the flow of traffic will get you a driving test fail. I was taught that you should accelerate safely up to 28-30mph in a 30 zone as quickly as possible and maintain a steady speed. Dithering, driving too slowly, holding up the traffic just causes annoyance to other drivers and uncertainty to pedestrians. It's dangerous driving.

Worst of all are the idiots who dawdle along the coast road at 40mph when the limit is 50mph, visibility and road surface is good and there's no reason to do less than 48mph even if you want to be sure of staying under the limit. Then they get to Weld Road roundabout and proceed up the next 30mph section of coast road still doing 40mph! If you can't drive to the speed limits you need your licence taking off you.

Also I am sick of being tailgated along Station Road in Ainsdale by, amongst others, bus drivers and Police cars. I am driving at 20mph which is the speed limit, stop trying to push me into exceeding it.
