    Woe is me.

Our son went off to university.
    He came home a vegetarian.

Our son went off to do a Masters.
Next time he comes home as a Vegan.

As we have always stuck to one brand of butter at home can anyone advise on a nice tasting substitute?

    Thank you in anticipation.

There is Bertolli, Vitalite etc., but you can make your own, which is far better. There are various recipes on the internet. Just hang in there until he finds a nice girl with a normal appetite - he may well change again.

Tell your Vegan son he is eating the food of an animal, that could be now starving to death, if many of us became vegans, think of all the starving animals, not enough 'protein' to feed all the animals and vegans.

Besides which farmers are going to pay to feed livestock if nobody is eating them, millions of animals would starve

Thank you but it will have to be a bought item as cooking is not one of my talents.

Mr Hamble has tried a few speeches. Son is far too skilful with his replies.

    Still it could be worse.

Our sweet daughter went to university and came back a socialist.

    Reply was 'any' thanks.

Son is a student paying high rent high fees.
The flat share mates take turn shopping for basics for the house.
I expect the choice is by cost not flavour.

I am thinking that if I buy a pleasant tasting brand when son returns
to university after visits especially weekend ones the spread will not be wasted.

I am looking forward with an open mind.

He sounds clever enough to know not to eat margarine so ask him to bring his own preferred brand or buy a tub of this margarine stuff and a block of proper butter and empty the margarine into the bin or oil your bicycle chain with it then replace it in the tub with the butter, keep it out of sight at the back of the fridge and only mention it briefly if you have to.

Having a vegetarian was a learning curve.
They are so suspicious reading the small print and insisting on original packaging.

Mr Hamble had a theory during the vegetarian phase that basic rations nothing exotic would end in capitulation....and then we got a Vegan..

It seems we parents cannot compete with The Vegan Society and
    his housemates guilt trippers pressure.

    Not to mention the economy.
Is there enough vegan food for restaurants to survive?

Allergy from peanut oil and hummus intoxication will rocket.
