What special day is it today?
Today is Thinking Day.
My daughter was a Brownie, Girl Guide then a Guide Leader. I was a Guide Leader for 25 years, taking 30 girls away each year to camp and outings. They did a lot of badge work, even cooked breakfast for the congregation at Victoria Methodist church on the first Sunday in May. Many happy memories
Girl Guides and Girl Scouts have been marking this special day since 1926
World Thinking Day is a celebration of ten million girls worldwide that has taken place on every 22 February since 1926. It remains a day for all Guides and Girl Scouts to think of each other and celebrate their sisters all around the world.

It has been said that when helping people change their behaviour – “the spirit in which help is offered” is the most important aspect, more than the degree of skills and knowledge of the helper!

Never having been a Brownie or Guide I am wondering how the movement has changed over the years and moved with the times?

It has changed vastly, more rules & regulations, naturally. Badge work is more diverse. Girls seem to run the meeting more themselves nowadays. Camp was always the best & memorable times everyone loved it. Remember taking 30+ girls & some parents to London, visited Houses of Parliament & Madame Tussards. The arrangement for the parents was to meet at Centre Point at the coach. Well after waiting for an hour in torrential rain waiting for a grandparent & grandchild (not a Guide) I went to Tottenham Court Police station to ask if they could contact the Guide's mother in Southport. This was before the time of mobile phones.
The mother said that the grandmother had asked her daughter to buy her train tickets as she said that she had missed the coach.
The girl never came to Guides again
Could tell you loads of stories about my times in Guiding
