Our British sailors eat lime to keep fit.
The term is thought to have ...
Urban Dictionary: limey

An Austrian is an Ausey
An American a Yankee
Does this also refer to Packie. The name may not be offensive but it normally followed by something offensive.
In the new dictionary a Corner Shop with a hard working Family
May be called a Packie Shop,
saying that, how can that be offensive
comments please.
.
The problem is terms like 'Pakis' have been hijacked by the racist bigots as has the flag of St George.

The term Limey is as you say an Americanism, I think refers to eating limes to prevent scurvy.
We are Poms to the Aussies, a term derived from prisoners of his/her majesty I believe.
I'm not offended by either term, but they haven't been hijacked by the NF, EDL or such like.

Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

the problem with pc is its inherent assumption that all humans maintain the the same universal value systems and acceptable behaviours, sadly this is not true, else there wouldn't be crimes assaults or abuse.the fact is every culture has its own acceptable norms and these oft conflict with the norms of others.the bridge used to be humourous banter and acceptance that we all are frail in some ways and shouldn't take our root norms so seriously, that it ultimately causes claim to superiority over anothers norms as a right of retribrution of offence.

It's not necessarily the term itself that causes offence it's the way it is used. Now if "Paki" had solely been used as a term of endearment for someone from Pakistan there might not have been a problem but we all know that it is widely used to abuse anyone of Asian descent. Let's not pretend otherwise.

I first moved th Oz in 1975 and have been called a Pommy hundreds of times. I too have never been offended, as the term is almost always used as good natured banter. It has also been suggested that Pommy or Pomi is derived from "Prisoner of the Mother Isle" Although its actual origins have never really been established.
Just be yourself, no one else is better qualified!!

Political correctness...
So calling someone a Scouser or Cockney can also be counted as not being polically correct ? or a Bummie, etc etc.

Brummie Scouser and Cockney and pommie are usually used after hearing the accent whereas racist nicknames are generally used on
ethnicity and rarely with affection.
