Hi everyone, my late Grandad's Rotary watch has stopped working and we would like to get it fixed for my dad to wear so was wondering does anyone know a good watch repairer that won't charge the earth?

We used a place on Wesley Street many years ago, did a good job. Quick Google and Andersons comes up, not sure if it's the same one as we used. How about Timpsons outside Tesco Kew?

They want the watch fixing not soled and heeled, be Andersons for my fist port of call but you could try a good jeweller.

yes andersons are good.its original owner sadly due to ill health had to retire.is still run by an equally good family firm from l/pool.but times have moved on and the watch industry is in full recovery these days,and prices have moved on accordingly.a watch is one of those things one takes for granted,and when it comes to repair ,most don't realise the skill needed and experience to effect a repair .it is after all a precision instrument.be it one we use abuse and disregard till it goes wrong.i would expect that a normal service would cost over a £100.00 miniumum !based on the current market prices,watchmakers are craftsmen of high calibre .so be aware of this.hope it helps ,from a watchmaking family though not in that field ,but a craftsman in an allied trade.

Thank you for all your replies, certainly worth a visit to Andersons first and I would never have thought about Timpsons.

I'd rather place my watch in the hands of a specialist watch repairer than a franchisee former drain digger who has invested his/her life savings in a shoe repair key cutting business and attended a two day course at Timpson Towers, Teddington. No disrespect to Timpson stall holders but a Jack of All Trades is usually Master of None.

By the way I have always taken my shoe repairs to Rimmers in Forest Rd a man who followed his Father and Grandfather in the business.

Gosh, is Tony Rimmer still working? Not seen him for about 2 years but he had really aged then. I thought he might have retired. He must be in his early 80s now. I suppose he will just carry on till he drops!
