Washing machine engineer
Anybody have a number for a washing machine engineer to replace a drive belt on a Hotpoint washing machine?

It has been said that when helping people change their behaviour – “the spirit in which help is offered” is the most important aspect, more than the degree of skills and knowledge of the helper!

Had a visit this morning from a washing mechanic, (got his name from Smiths in Ainsdale village) who seemed to be very knowledgable. He advised me that my machine wasn't worth repairing as it would cost too much to repair. Bearings had gone. Advised me on the which make of machine to buy. Charged me half the amount he had stated for initial call out as he was only in the house for ten minutes.
His name is Paul and he is available on 07710430511

Are you certain that his advice was correct?
May be on commission to sell new machines!

Simple test for worn out bearings :-
Put your hand inside the drum , near the front , and give a short push upwards then release ( repeat a few times ) .
If you can feel a lot of play and/or a knocking sound , the bearings are gone .
New bearings are not expensive , but it's a big job in terms of labour ( up to 3 hours ! ).
They tend to go bad only on old machines , which means that other parts are likely to need
replacing in the near future .
That could be around £100 that would better be spent on a new machine .
Zanussi are my usual recommendation .... good build quality at a reasonable price .
But if top quality is the main priority ..... AEG , Bosch , Siemens are all excellent.
The cheapest machines are a false economy IMO

I have had the drum bearings go on a Hotpoint washing machine that was only a few years old .it was a big job to replace them and I did not expect it to succeed , I also fitted better bearings and made sure the blocked drain hole was clear , and the machine has been going for years now ....
always reverse to see what you have run over ...
