I have something that should light up this thread, in fact I wrote the whole story out late into the night the other night and was just about to post it when the site said I needed to log in again then the log in page appeared so I logged in again and puff.. the story I wrote was gone.. off into the ether never to bee seen again so I will attempt to write it again in the next couple of days when I have time.
In brief its about my uncle Wallace, a tall, strong and quiet well humoured man that had a lovely character he ended up living in Norwich but often visited his sister (my nan) who used to live at 10 Guildford rd where she brought up 14 children together (7boys 7girls) that were evacuated from Manchester (probably Oldham) during the war, she was a lovely Christian older lady that spent her Sundays in Bethesda chapel when she wasn't founding the Southport townswomen's guild.
As a young boy I remember Wallace visiting often and I got on with him well, I particularly remember he had two marks burned in on his wrist and he could pop up his muscles in his wrist to a strong ball I have never seen anything like this to this day, one day (as a young boy) I asked him how did you come to have muscles in your wrists like that and quickly my nan stepped in with "he got them from bending iron bars" and of course that answer was enough to satisfy a young boys curiosity, I became aware that he had been in the war as my nan showed me some letters that he had sent from all over the world, the letters were plain hello I am still alive and in sunny climates, hope you are well type stuff but would never be more revealing as to where he was or what he was up to so one day I asked him were you in the war?, did you kill anyone?, I remember the room went quiet and he told me you either kill or be killed and my nan told me that he didn't like to talk about it then my attention was distracted away probably with pop and cake. I do still use the technique he taught me that prevents anyone copying my signature, many have tried and none have done it yet.
Anyway it turns out he got medals 60yrs after the war and although the vow of secrecy was only valid for 30yrs amongst most of the major European countries resistance organisations he formed, came and went through, supplied and recruited for and got the keys to the cities of presented to him by various mayors for his resistance work ( when he wasn't jumping out of a Lancaster over occupied territory in the dead of night with codes, supplies and a mills bomb).
It turns out that the resistance movement personnel were recognisable to each other with 2 hole burned in their wrists and stroking your face with 2 fingers was another signal and lets face it if you are going to have to snap someones neck quickly, quietly and in one go it would serve you well to have strong wrists.
so when I get a bit of time ill get on with the full story, there's probably a movie in it that would make James bond look like a little girl.

At least I have a claim. You have a lot of work to do yet before laying claim to anything worthwhile.

My dad was in the Burma Star although as a naval man, he wasn't actually awarded a Burma Star but instead, the Pacific Star as he was stationed off their waters.

I have a handwritten account of his setting out his thoughts when he'd first joined up (from Hampshire) and was sent with his comrades to be billetted at the Lido in Ainsdale. That's where he met my mum who was working there as a waitress and they were happily married for over 50 years. If you think it may be of interest, please let me have an email address and I'll gladly send it. It came as a surprise to my mum who had no idea of its existence until she found it after his death

It has been said that the worst characteristics of an egotist are, low self esteem, they live in a fantasy world. And are compulsive attention seekers with an insufferable air of superiority. You clearly fit the bill?

You have me confused with someone else! I have no esteem whatever, I do not give a ..........what anyone thinks about me, not my concern, it is their problem. I dislike intensely anyone paying me any attention - even denying anything was to do with me, insufferable - more than likely, superiority? there are many far better than me but a lot who are far worse than me, I disliked The Bill when it was televised! Anyway - you should not be on this site now - you should be in Kiev!

The sheer volume of rubbish that you post on here would suggest that the above is at best fantasy or, quite probably, another example of your proclivity towards mendacity.

For goodness sake, don't encourage him. His ego doesn't need massaging, it's already excessively inflated.
