Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

Most supermarkets carry vegan wine and beer
They can eat meat too just as long it isnt from an animal.

some wines contain animal dirivatives as part of its manufacturing processes, for clearing preserving etc.but its a miniscule content.been a vegy, but youd be pretty hard put to live a totally animal free existence.most vegans will find with something they've inadvertently had animal byproducts passed through their lives.but totally get theirlifestyle.

Always amuses me when we get those who go for a vegan diet plus of course all their veg must be organic with no chemicals involved, I wonder do they realise just what fertiliser is used to grow their clean veg, surprise, surprise good all farm yard manure, which of course is produced by animals, or possibly the residue from water treatment plants aka sewage.
I know many opt for a vegetarian diet as a choice for their own reasons, but we as humans are omnivores, better on a mixed diet.

As if wine isn't bad enough you now tell us the grapes have to pass through animals before some sweaty footed Frenchman cleans his feet crushing them.

I knew of a pig farm in Lancashire where the poor pigs never saw light of day (in poorly maintained buildings (look derelict)) until they were transported to the abattoir or transported to Europe for slaughter and the pig slurry was used on the farms around there (absolutely stunk) - the same crops were sold as organic. I don't think many people understand what organic means.

Do vegans wear leather shoes, jackets or carry leather bags/cases? Do they eat marshmallows, jellies or similar? Do they recognise that plants are also a form of life? Just curious?

I will have to ask my partners daughter, the next time she comes down to visit us from Stranraer,as to what she eats for meals,as a vegan herself I know they don't have dairy products in their diets, using Almond milk instead of cows milk, and she will not eat eggs from a chicken, knowing it to be killed, and also with her being a serious animal lover, will NOT buy,or wear ANY animal skin or fur products.

Many years ago spuds etc in West Lancs were grown using 'night soil' (contents of chamber pots) from Liverpool as fertiliser.

As a kid in the 50s I remember it being delivered by barge along the Leeds & Liverpool canal. My grandparents had a farm in Downholland and always used it as a fertiliser. I think it was mixed with horse manure cleared from the streets, and rubbish. I remember Granddad complaining when it was obvious that there was too much rubbish in the mix.
I grew up eating their produce, and I'm still alive to tell the tale!

United Utilities were still providing tankers full of sewage sludge to farms in and around Hightown in the 1990s.
Vegetarians do not eat animal gelatin based products like wine gums, marshmallows etc. so I guess the same goes for vegans.
