United Utilities came to unblock the drains to the rear of our property about a month ago, which run underneath our decking, which I had to lift up some of the decking, and as I had used 10 drain rods to try to remove a possible blockage myself, plus tried flushing with a hose pipe, and still could not trace or dislodge the blockage, phoned them up,and 2 workmen arrived 2 days later, warned beforehand about the times, came down cleared the blockage, then sent a camera down to check if all was clear, took them about an hour and a half to sort the problem out.Great company to be able to contact in an emergency situation.

I was informed that United Utilities were only responsible for the drains and water supply up to your boundary wall. On your property it is your responsibility. If it was under your decking, one assumes it is on your property.

You were correctly informed , I have insurance with British Gas , for my household electrics, and all white goods plumbing including drains to the building line after that it's the responsibility of U/U.
I called BG and they sent Dinarod, who rodded up to the build line only , they were unable to clear the problem , I then called U/U .

Just had a quick Google as I'd heard something about older houses. I think if a house was built before october 1937 and has shared drains with neighbours. the drains are United Utilities responsibility. (Our toilet drain runs under our neighbours garden.)

In answer to the query of United Utilities clearing the drains.
We live in a very long Victorian terrace, near to the middle of it,the terrace was originally built for the Railway workers, and was built in about 1880.And every third house of the terrace, the drains, and water main are shared. With a main sewer/rainwater drain at the front, about 5 feet into the gardens, the drains themselves run from the rear of the property, starting at the Haig Avenue chip shop end,and run under a private footbath to the rear of the terrace, outside of the boundary, with branches off it,then the drain loops back to the front of the properties, back to the main part of Haig Avenue.
We had a water main incident about 7 years ago, when my neighbour had a major water main leak under the extension, only built 3 years previous, and had to have the floor excavated to gain access to the main for it to be capped off,and we had to have separate water mains installed, from the front of the property,to the rear, going under the terrace and up to the kitchen at the rear, where the stop valve was.Having to pay for the work through the house insurance, costing at the time around £1300 for each main to be replaced/installed.

That's the reason I have all my services covered with British Gas Jonny .
