I thought that the people who voted leave had allowed debate to rise above the pub football banter level. The continued name calling suggests obviously not.

I was very disappointed by the leave vote but I consoled myself that it would lead to some extremely interesting politics. I've not been disappointed. Who could have foreseen the shocking political judgment of Theresa May, who in her desperation to hang onto power got into bed with some 17th century religious bigots who now seem to hold a power of veto on anything the government does.

I'm quite enjoying the spectacle to be honest. The special pleadings from leave strongholds like Grimsby, NI and Cornwall are only the beginning.

Do you think he is the only person involved with the EU that wants a United States of Europe? What about an EU army? EU intelligence agencies? Where does it end?

Do you think he is the only person involved with the EU that wants a United States of Europe? What about an EU army? EU intelligence agency? Where does it end?

Imo, both concepts make perfect sense.....

1. An EU army, or at the very least the combining of each nations forces, would benefit from compatibility of weapons systems, communications systems, etc. Also reduces confusion on battlefield between participating nations forces and reduces possibility of 'friendly fire' accidents. There could well be cost-savings compared to present setup, where there is much duplication of resources.

2. Sharing intelligence would make life harder for cross-border criminals etc.

Winston Churchill also said that there will be a Union of Europe, but that the UK would not be a part of it, only associated with it!

According to some of the Armed Services personnel who were engaged on cross border activities, a combined army turned out to be a complete shambles. There were complaints about who should be leading the groups, there were language difficulties leading to poor communication and differences in national character that made it impossible for each soldier to protect a number of other nationals forces.

German soldiers for instance are allowed to supervise other member states armed forces, but other member forces are not allowed to supervise those of Germany in accordance with the German Armed Forces Agreement. Also - any German soldier who did not want to fight in any particular war, for any reason - can be excused.

According to Western media - Germany has been signing up elite forces from various member countries for the past 18 months or more. Holland, Poland, Lithuania have agreed to send troops to Germany for training with the German Army and there will be more to follow.

As the FP reported in May of this year,
" Few people in Europe have objected to the integration of Dutch or Romanian units into German divisions, partly because they may not have noticed. Whether there will be political repercussions should more nations sign up to the initiative is less clear." This possibly is on reflection of a potential German dominance in Europe.

The EU has continually shared intelligence supposedly - not only with Europe bue also with the USA - a fat lot of good that has done!

With different members using different languages, weapons systems, communications protocols, it's no surprise things go pear-shaped. All the more reason for integrating those disparate elements into a single fully-functioning entity.

I'm not even sure Theresa May is doing a bad job, Just an impossible one. Why anyone would put their hand up and say "yep, that's the job for me" Is quite beyond me.

Yes, it would be very nice if we could live peacefully in our own countries without interference from outside politics.
