Trevor McDonald
Is anyone watching Trevor's documentary on Martin Luther king , sickening scenes from a bye gone age thank god . Those of a certain age will remember the civil rights movement in the US.
It brings back memories of the late fifties and early sixties , memories that have been brought back by a great documentary.

Horrifying, sickening, heartbreaking.
Sadly still happening, as in the Charlottesville incident not even a year ago.
Coincidentally I watched the film 'Hidden Figures' last night. That was horrendous, but this documentary really hammers it home.
Makes me despair for humanity.

Martin Luther King was probably the most verbal of the activists at the time - but there were several activist groups that originated after WWII, in which several thousand black men were enlisted to fight. They were very brave people considering the violence that they faced
Rosa Parks became known as ‘the mother of the Civil Rights Movement' when she refused to give up her seat on a public bus to a white passenger. She was a member of the NAACP, after her arrest a bus boycott was organised by King. The boycott lasted for 381 days, 90% of black people took part and greatly cut the bus company revenues. A federal court ordered the buses in Montgomery to be desegregated and the boycott ended. There are several stories of brave Black people who ignored the segregation laws, many of them paid with their lives.

Not just then, I am sorry to say. If you have the stomach for it you should try looking at some of the US conservative discussion forums. The views they are open about are disgusting and these are not even the far right lunatics who showed up in Charlottsville. We can't be complacent here about racism but we can be proud that we are moving along the right path at least, unlike a large section of the US population.

A response so curt as to be almost rude.
You were clearly asked to provide a Link.
Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

Not clear to me.
However, try Delphi Forums. There are any number of forums within that umbrella... Buzzard's Roost, Bully Pulpit for two. There are Democrat forums too for a more leftist view, but still biased. You have to be careful about terms... our conservative label is dangerously communist to the folk on the right. You can imagine what socialism is viewed as.

To be fair, there are quite a lot of people in this country that don't know the difference between democratic socialism, socialism and communism. I really wouldn't expect the MAGA bunch to have a clue.

That's true. But most people here could tell the difference between Labour and Conservative I think. To the US knuckledraggers ( a term which they proudly claim for themselves) fascism is on the left. US conservatism (small c) is so far right that it has turned into something else entirely, and it's not pretty.
