Town being cut off by Northernfail
Southport is being cut off from the rest of the the world by Northernfail, Yesterday the services due to arrive @ 14:39, 16:39 & 17:39 and the departures at 14:45, 16:45 & 20:45 didn't run.
Anybody trying to visit the town will soon say never again, time to take the franchise off them before they decide that the service isn't viable and close the line.

It's true. Recently I flew from Manchester Airport with my friend. We had an early morning flight and my friend came good with a golden nugget of wisdom which was to stay over in Manchester the night before we were due to fly because of concerns that Northern Rail would throw spanner in the works with some form of rail related faux pas, this turned out to be a real trip saving decision as, surprise surprise, Northern rail had cancelled the Southport to Piccadilly service for reasons still unknown to me, I have approached Northern Rail about this. Trying to get a train from Piccadilly to Manchester Airport on the morning of flight was hard enough because of delays, but alas, delays happen.
Coming home from the airport was honestly was on the most stressful and unpleasant experiences I have had travelling, ever, and I've been around!. A popular seaside town in the middle of the summer season should absolutely have a direct run from all airports in the local area, i.e, Manchester and Liverpool, and thank the lord for small mercy's that Merseyrail are keeping us connected very well indeed to Liverpool airport (best airport in England in my opinion).
We hear all the time that Southport tourism is not reaching it's full potential, and whilst efforts are being made to boost what are already promising numbers, I cannot help but strongly believe we are being undersold and the lack of a decent connection to and from Manchester and it's airport is for me the major hole in the bow of our ship.
What can we local sea-air breathing mortals do about this? Talk to our local MP? No, he doesn't give a whip about this issue.

You really do have some ‘foot in mouth’ moments, don’t you.

Troll-tastic. Seems LL's been on the wacky backy again. Choo-choos are now't to do with me. Always happy to criticize the commies, of course, just like I do other members of the traitor class in the LibLabCon cabal.

I have a meeting tomorrow and Wednesday in Manchester. Ordinarily I would get the train but I simply don't trust the service. I will drive instead and waste 8 hours of my life sat in a car park called the m6 for the 4 journeys.

I really do not understand why the Manchester Rail people are not facing reality. I also travel around a lot, and I know that Manchester is experiencing great success at present with more businesses moving into the area from further South. The councils within areas an hour's radius of Manchester have acted very fast, building new roads, widening old roads and building new housing projects which are being snapped up fast by commuters to Manchester. It is vital at this time that the Southport/Manchester line should be modernised and a reliable service put in place if Southport is not to lose out. Southport is the nearest sea side resort to Manchester, there are regular delays on the motorways which are almost choked at rush hour. - Even better, there should be a very serious application to nationalise this service, fast!
