Southport looked really busy this morning! Went into the Atkinson and the cafe was doing great trade, as was the one outside the Town Hall. All the cafes along Lord Street had people sitting outside. Don't know about the shops...

Well - I went to get a new pair of sunglasses yesterday and had to fight my way through a number of people who were doing the same. Clothes shops are busy as people attempt to find something lightweight to wear - since this very hot spell was unexpected and people assumed it would only last a day or two, they just had normal British summer clothing. I hope the weather lasts - it will probably be another fifty years before the next one!

Surely the beach was busy?
We have just booked an overnighter before the good weather ends.

Whoever thinks Southport is like a 'ghost town' needs to either have their bumps felt or, stop smoking the Carribean woodbines.
It is clearly not the case but that doesn't fit with the 'misery agenda' promote on this site.

The Promenade is very busy, more so in the evenings at sunset! While the weather is so great! The beach in the day is pretty hot before you reach the water.

Wake up and smell the coffee.
Have you walked around the town?

Took us 15 minutes to drive down the coast road this afternoon due to all the crowds and traffic!

try popping into many of the local individual retailers.then come back with their responses.people milling round in this rare weather spell doesn't equate to a consistant buying footfall.more than willing to be proved wrong ,but those of us at the grassroots day to day occupancy of the retail sector, have a different experience .just glad im not totally dependant on footfall.just go out and ask

I hear this comment a lot about local traders - maybe people's shopping habits have changed, maybe you and the others aren't selling what they want.
Allegations that the place is like a ghost town are just subjective opinions not borne out by the visual evidence.
They might be 'milling' around but they are there - it's up to the traders to provide what they want and, if that's pavement cafes and bars then that's what we give them.
People's lifestyles and shopping habits have changed and the business community can either accept that and change with them or - adopt a 'loom wreckers' mentality and deride the town whilst whistfully wishing for times that will not return.

Yes - at least twice a day and, unless someone has sneaked contact lenses with people engraved onto them into my eyes, the town is busy.
I do however accept the wry humour implicit in your coffee comment

I am pleased to say that Southport is busy, however shopping habits have changed all over the country due to people buying on line and at out of town shopping malls.
Double yellow lines everywhere make the town appear unfriendly.
It will continue to be very difficult for retail throughout the UK.
It seems bars, coffee shops and charity shops are what we now have in abundance !

The warm weather has indeed brought many more people out into town - but they are not shopping - many cannot be bothered to cook at home and are eating out or they need to drink more, particularly alcohol. This is the same for everywhere in the UK. Once it rains - the streets are completely empty.
