The Ripoff Continues
Ventured to far off lands yesterday, passed Tesco @ Formby and noted the petrol price, 126.9p. Continued towards the tunnel, the next petrol station some 7 miles down the road is another Tesco the price here 120.9 some 6p per litre cheaper. Even cheaper is the Sainsbury's on Scotland Rd @ 119.9p , how can these major retailers justify such large differences, is it because they think Southport is affluent and they can afford it or too stupid.
Time has come to boycott these greedy retailers.

It would not be practical for me to travel several miles further to save a penny or two off a litre!

It's not rip off, you choose.
A pint of Guinness in centre of town can be bought for £2.
400 yards from this establishment it costs £3.60.
It's not a rip off, I choose.
Stop complaining.

If I buy a bottle of wine in Tesco Kew then at Tesco Formby it's the same price, further afield buy the same bottle of wine in a Tesco in Manchester it will be the same price, I agree it's my choice it is the disparity between petrol prices at the same seller that is the 'rip off'.

Very few people stay within the town all the time, it is a matter of planning visits to the fuel pump, even on the smallest car the saving is a couple of quid.

It's clearly a rip off. Fortunately, I travel into Liverpool or past the Bamber Bridge Sainsburys frequently enough to avoid spending anything at all at the cartel petrol stations in Southport. Yet more money leaving town - this time because of local supermarket greed.

Oh dear , as I said it's down to choice. The reason for difference
in prices is down to overheads and footfall. It's not a ripoff just
simple mathematics even though it's the same company.

If a petrol station is in the middle of nowhere then this is a valid argument, but for Tesco Kew & Tesco Formby to differ in price there is no justification.
My late father lived in Scotland, I would fill up in Southport then travel north. His nearest petrol station was in Arrochar, en-route I would fill up again, this relatively remote petrol station was always 3-4p cheaper than Southport.
If overheads & footfall is a deciding factor then it would stand to reason that groceries within the shop would have to differ in price also.

You say filled up in Southport then topped up en route.
Were the 2 stations of the same company?
ie Tesco.

No they weren't, the point I was making is a petrol station in a relatively big town with a large footfall is dearer than a petrol station in a tiny village with minimal footfall.

Even though the price of crude oil continues to fall, (down to $71 a barrel today), the price of fuel at the pump continues to rise. It appears that fuel all around the Preston area has gone up a penny as recently as today.
At the same time, the oil companies have all been reporting all time record profits.
Added to this, the Government is going to increase duty in the next budget, and we as motorists are absolutely powerless to do anything about it.
