    TV Adverts for Gambling

I watched the football highlights on Wednesday and Thursday this week and found the number of adverts for gambling quite disturbing. Gambling is a recognised addiction so I feel there should be the same as restrictions on advertising for smoking and alcohol. What do you think?

Yes these adverts make it all fun and easy but that is why the bookies pay thousands to marketing people etc. The ease to open an online account and to place a bet is frightening.

    gambling ads

Far, far too many gambling ads in my opinion, whatever happened to normal adverts for holidays, birds eye dinners for one and viennettas etc....??

You've got Wink Bingo, Foxy Bingo, Sun Bingo and all the other stuff that appears between sports coverage like bet in play now and cash out when someone scores. It's not easy for some people to give up that quick and spirals out of control. Even some high profile ex sports stars have come a cropper with their betting and gambling habits.

I saw an advert in a supermarket today.

'If you can not see what you are looking for please ask our staff
they will be happy to help you.We do not sell cigarettes to under 18'.

Another on a board outside a café.

'Thin people are easier to kidnap.Stay safe eat burgers'.

I like the one about asking a member of staff.
You could ask but when you do, they give you a funny look as if you shouldn't be there, go off for a while and pretend to look and then come back and tell you.... "if it's not on the shelf, we haven't got any til the next delivery"
Deliveries are every day.....so where is the problem ?

They may have sold out of that day's delivery or it might not have arrived yet.
How long do you want to hang around for the next one?

    True!
I thought the sign circumvented the tobacco advertising law.

Since 2012 shops are not allowed to display cigarettes. For the shop to add the message is advertising them.

'If you can not see what you are looking for please ask our staff they will be happy to help you.
We do not sell cigarettes to under 18'.
